The Long Memory is now open to scholars and translators
The Long Memory is now open to scholars and translators who can render significant texts on Indian history from Indian and foreign languages into English.
The translation of historical texts has been confined to a handful of languages, and what work exists owes more to individual enthusiasts than to institutional support. Many important works in understudied languages remain inaccessible to anyone who does not know the original language.
This initiative seeks to make such works available to a wider readership while preserving their linguistic, cultural and intellectual richness.
Commissioned & Published
Selected translations will be formally commissioned and published by The Long Memory and made freely available to the public. Translators will receive an honorarium, negotiated per project, in recognition of the time, expertise and scholarly labour involved.
Who Can Apply
We welcome proposals from scholars with a strong command of the source language and a sound understanding of the text’s historical and cultural context. Proposals may cover complete works or substantial excerpts.
How to Apply
To apply, email submissions@thelongmemory.in with details of the work you propose to translate, its historical and cultural significance, and your relevant experience.
Proposals are accepted on a rolling basis.
