Initial Proposal

Prospective contributors must submit a proposal to submissions@thelongmemory.in including:

A clearly stated title for the proposed article.

A brief description of the topic and its significance.

An attached Curriculum Vitae (CV).

The editorial team will respond within 3 business days. If the proposed topic does not align with the scope of our project, or if the contributor’s academic background is not suited to the specific subject, a rejection will be communicated by mail.

B. Editorial Interview

If the initial proposal is approved, the contributor will be invited to a virtual interview with a member of our Editorial Board. During this interview, the scope, framing, and direction of the article will be discussed. The Editorial Board may suggest revisions to the theme or the area of study; the contributor is free to accept or decline these suggestions. However, The Long Memory will only proceed with a theme that the Editorial Board deems appropriate.

Research and Final Draft: Once the title has been finalised, the contributor is expected to commence research and submit the completed article within two weeks. Please note that unsolicited complete drafts will not be considered under any circumstances.

C. Article Requirements

Scope and Style: Articles must address underrepresented topics in Indian history or its related disciplines. The following standards apply to all submissions:

The argument must be coherent, well-reasoned, and situated within its broader social and historical context. Mere narration of events without critical analysis will not be accepted. Relevance in contemporary times

The language must be clear and academic, but accessible. Over-contextualisation and excessive use of jargons are strongly discouraged.

The piece must be read as an integrated scholarly essay, not as a series of excerpts or a compilation of facts.

D. Final Submission Requirements

Once the title is finalized, researchers have two weeks to submit the completed draft.

Length: 3,000 to 6,000 words (excluding references).

Citations: APA style, strictly as endnotes (footnotes are not permitted).

Language: British English; scholarly yet accessible tone.

Integrity: Strict policy against plagiarism and the substantive use of AI in drafting.

E. Language

All submissions must be in English. The Long Memory follows British English conventions throughout. The language of the article should be academic yet accessible. Whilst we strongly encourage the contributors to write on regional history using regional-language primary sources in the research process, the final piece must be written in English.

F. Formatting Specifications

All submissions must adhere to the following formatting specifications:

File format: .docx only

Font: Times New Roman

Font size: 12 point

Line spacing: 1.15

Alignment: Justified

Citations: APA style, inserted as endnotes (footnotes not permitted)

A selected bibliography must be appended at the end of the article

G. Use of Artificial Intelligence

The following policy governs the use of AI tools:

Permitted use: The use of AI for research assistance, fact-checking, translation support, or as a sounding board for ideas is acceptable, provided the intellectual labour, the argument, the voice, and the critical judgement remain entirely the author’s own.

Prohibited use: Work in which the prose, structure, or critical reasoning has been generated by an AI system will not be accepted.

The Editorial Board reserves its discretion in all matters pertaining to AI use. Suspected breach of this policy may result in rejection of the submission and cancellation of the commission.

H. Publication Policy

The Editorial Board evaluates all submissions for academic rigour, strength of argument, and engagement with primary sources. The Long Memory reserves all publication rights over accepted articles. Acceptance for review does not guarantee final publication; the final decision rests solely with the Editorial Board.

I.
